Dublin InQuirer

Client: Dublin InQuirer

Brief:
Develop the cover illustration for the Dublin InQuirer, highlighting the inadequacies in late-night bus service in Dublin, which result in many women walking home alone through deserted streets.

Solution:
I focused on capturing the emotion of a woman walking alone at night due to the lack of reliable bus service. This was conveyed through her facial expression and the use of negative space in the shape of a bus, filled with details of an empty alleyway. The intention was to illustrate the relationship between the lack of bus service and the necessity for women to walk home alone through deserted streets. This approach resulted in a powerful and on-topic cover piece that effectively engages readers and increases interest in the Dublin InQuirer.

Process:

  • Concept Development: Focused on the emotional experience of women walking alone at night due to inadequate bus service.
  • Sketching: Created initial sketches emphasizing facial expressions and the use of negative space.
  • Digital Rendering: Used Procreate and Photoshop to digitally render and refine the illustration.
  • Final Illustration: Produced a compelling cover illustration that communicates the key message.

Deliverables:

  • Cover Illustration for Issue 76 of the Dublin InQuirer

Software Used:

  • Procreate
  • Adobe Photoshop

Presenting: Dublin InQuirer, Issue 76
